Youre right.  Im estimating "about 1/4 inch" as I dont have the mixer any more, nor did I want to take the time to measure the bowl.  But I know that when I put the K5SS bowls on the 600 stand, the pegs on the 600 were "about 1/4 inch" too wide for the holes on the side of the K5SS bowls.  Close, but they didnt quite work.

As for overloading the mixer, youre also correct.  Over the years I kneaded hundreds of loaves with that mixer. Sometimes slack doughs, but most often average hydration doughs (sometimes up to 2kg at a time).  Everything from ciabattas to large pain de campagne miches and pretty much everything in between.  Not to mention the cookies, cakes and everything else we used it for.  It had a good life, and it served me well, but it took a lot of abuse and died a heros death making 2kg of Vermont Sourdough. :)
